Who are we?

Sharelly Emanuelson – founder and filmmaker

sharellyemanuelsonprofilepicSharelly Emanuelson is our visionary and strategist. She founded Uniarte in the Netherlands in 201o. She returned to Curaçao in 2015 and in january 2016 Uniarte opened her doors as a creative platform in Casa Moderna. Sharelly works more in the background of our organization and attends the legal and administrative matters. She also is the visionary of Uniarte and takes the foundation to next levels.

Sharelly Emanuelson is a filmmaker & video artist. She acquired her B.A. in Audiovisual Media from the School of Arts, Utrecht, the Netherlands, followed by a M.A. in Artistic Research at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. Her first documentary film “Su Solo I Playanan” (2010) won an audience award at the Africa in the Picture film festival (2012). “Su Solo” was screened at several film festivals and public debate platforms. With her latest video installation “Doh mix meh up” she won the 2014 Royal Academy of Art Master award. Shortly after having received this recognition “Doh mix meh up” was shown at the Oxford University, where the title of the work was adopted for the exhibition.

Avantia Damberg | artist, art project and communication manager


Avantia Damberg (1977) is the art project and communication manager at Uniarte. She is one of the visual artists on the first floor at Casa Moderna. On the first floor LoA (Loft of Artists) has the art studios. Avantia is the contact person, does the social media, the website, handles the press and so on, but also organizes projects for artists from LoA, local artists and international artists. Projects like Showcase Your Art, the AIR Uniarte and exhibitions fall under her care.

Avantia is a conceptual artist whose specializes in  installational art, videos art and animations. She also paints and makes collages. She lived for a long time in the Netherlands where she studied Marketing Management at the Fontys Hogescholen Eindhoven and Visual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Now back on her island she has intended to make Curaçao her center of the art world. With self initiated project as the Pop-up Gallery Amsterdam, the Amsterdam50 Gallery but also working as the PR at the Instituto Buena Bista  Curaçao and assistant at Caribbean Linked III at Ateliers 89 in Aruba, she gained experience she will put to use at Uniarte.
